Hey everybody! I'm glad to be back visiting with you on a daily basis. If you've ever listened to Mid Ohio's Country WNCO, then we're probably already friends. If not , let me introduce myself. I'm Matt Appleby, a Lexington native and Ashland High School graduate who's been on the air in mid Ohio since the winter of 1980. And yes that is my real name (who'd make that up?) My wife Kelly and I make our home in Mansfield and our daughter Sara is out on her own working as a case manager RN for a home health care agency. And while this is my first opportunity to DJ on Y105, I have been a fan of this station for a long time and I love the music. I'd be glad to have you as a Facebook friend, too. Thanks for tuning in weeknights on Y105!
Recently I've been responding to Facebook posts challenging me to name a band that doesn't have an "A" in its name, or to come up with my own band name by using the color of my pants followed by the last thing I ate. At the time I would have been "Blue Carrots". Inspired by those rediculous propositions, today I came up with one of my own: Name any musical act that has a fruit or vegetable in their name. The response was overwhelming. It was like a trip to the grocery.
There were plenty from the produce section: The Cranberries, The Raspberries, Bananarama, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Eyed Peas, Wild Cherry, Tangerine Dream, Peaches (& Herb), The Lemon Pipers, Cherry Poppin Daddies, Blind Melon, Fiona Apple and Smashing Pumpkins.
Strolling down another aisle you'll find: Bread, A Taste of Honey, Pearl Jam, Green Jelly, The Soup Dragons and Wishbone Ash (I assume salad dressing?)
On to the meat section: Chickenfoot, Fishbone, Meatloaf, and Captain Beefheart.
Then Dairy: Cream and The String Cheese Incident.
Desserts: Sugarloaf, Humble Pie, Cake and Vanilla Ice (cream).
Quite a list, one that would make an excellent night of music. If You needed a late night snack grab a tiny box of California Raisins.
What have we missed? Any Suggestions e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org or find me on Facebook!
