Hey everybody! I'm glad to be back visiting with you on a daily basis. If you've ever listened to Mid Ohio's Country WNCO, then we're probably already friends. If not , let me introduce myself. I'm Matt Appleby, a Lexington native and Ashland High School graduate who's been on the air in mid Ohio since the winter of 1980. And yes that is my real name (who'd make that up?) My wife Kelly and I make our home in Mansfield and our daughter Sara is out on her own working as a case manager RN for a home health care agency. And while this is my first opportunity to DJ on Y105, I have been a fan of this station for a long time and I love the music. I'd be glad to have you as a Facebook friend, too. Thanks for tuning in weeknights on Y105!
I'm a sucker for sequels, especially when it comes to the onslaught of super hero films we've seen come out in the last few decades. I've seen all the Batman, Superman and Spiderman movies and Saturday morning witnessed Iron Man 3. My friends and I attended the 11:00am showing. Note to Cinemark...you may want to consider opening for business earlier than 10:45am, especially when there are over 100 of us lined up on your sidewalk waiting for you to unlock the doors and sell us some tickets.
Back to Iron Man 3. It was good...on a scale of five buckets of popcorn I'd give it four. My score is based on my opinion of the story, the effects, the suspense and whether or not it will hold up to repeated viewings. The answer is yes, this one will probably make it on my Christmas list. It will be great viewing, down the road, when my yet-to-be-born grandson eventually finds my dvd collection. Pay particular attention to the outstanding performance by Sir Ben Kingsley as the villain The Mandarin.
Marvel films have developed a tradition of treating movie goers to a little treat at the very end of their films and Iron Man 3 is no exception. The audience I was in, all of us apparently aware of this tradition, sat still through all of the credits anticipating another Marvel surprise. I won't spoil anything for you, but let me say there is a teaser scene for an upcoming film and it is fun.
Congrats to Robert Downey Jr. and crew for now being a part of the two largest box office opening weekends ever!
1. - Iron Man 3 - $175.3 million
2. - Pain and Gain - $7.6 million
3. - 42 - $6.2 million
4. - Oblivion - $5.8 million
5. - The Croods - $4.2 million
Iron Man 3 sky-rocketed to the top of the box office over the weekend, kicking off Hollywood's summer movie season with $175.3 million. It's the second-biggest film opening of all time. Avengers opened on the same weekend last year with $207.4 million.
